Technology

Technology is constantly changing, and maintaining your system's competitive edge requires expert support and frequent technology ugrades. Teradata is constantly working to provide customers with more advanced hardware and software tools, as well as many different forms of support to ease transitions, ensure ongoing availability and help you start realizing a greater return on your Teradata investment from the very beginning.

Hardware and Software Updates

Hardware and/or software updates to your system place a risk on availability. Teradata ensures that risk is mitigated through the application of proven people, processes and tools. With Teradata Hardware and software updates, we will develop and document a written change control plan tailored to your needs that outlines the changes, tests the viability, ensures back-out and recovery plans, and verifies the success of your updates. Teradata Customer Services will:
  • Provide a Project Manager to manage the end-to-end update process
  • Complete a system profile with current site information data
  • Identify specific target update requirements
  • Provide detailed change control plan for all phases of the update
  • Provide release documentation in electronic format describing update and new functionality
  • Provide a back-out plan as a contingency against failures
  • Provide comprehensive test plan to identify known regressions
  • Turn the system(s) over to you with update installed and operational

Upgrade Validation and Planning

Teradata Upgrade Validation and Planning prepares you to move to Teradata 12.0 by analyzing query plans in an emulated environment and optimizing query run-time performance. There are three components to this engagement:
  1. Service — Compare optimizer plans for your queries under current and latest release, looking for differences, especially in the event of performance degradation.
  2. Instruction - Presentations on the Teradata Analyst Tools [link to page on these tools if available] (System Emulation Tool, Visual Explain, Index Wizard, Statistics Wizard).
  3. Mentoring/Hands-On - Increase self-sufficiency with Teradata best practices, expert instruction and live usage of these tools.
Benefits:
  • Preview the impact of your system expansion or upgrade on your queries without impacting your production system
  • Understand how the optimizer will process your queries to see the effect of an upgrade, as well as process "what-if" scenarios and see the performance impact of changing these queries
  • Spend less time regression testing and go into production faster with your new release of Teradata

Subscription

Subscription Service: Covers currently licensed major and minor software releases for the Teradata platform that Teradata makes generally available upon release.

ServiceLink

ServiceLink, a business-to-business (B2B), high-speed, secure connection for remote support enables system availability by allowing Teradata to provide a rapid response and quick resolution to any incident. ServiceLink improves your availability with a safeguard that is available to all Enterprise System Support (ESS) customers — at no extra cost.

Benefits to ServiceLink:
  • Resolving incidents eight to ten times faster than a dial-up connection
  • Multiple service personnel available to work on the same incident simultaneously
  • Instant access to system faults and configuration information that is vital to solving incidents rapidly and ensuring optimum system performance
  • ServiceLink is the gateway to all proactive support components
  • Reduced downtime with high-speed remote software fixes and upgrades
Teradata ServiceLink is secure, not only from a data transport perspective, but from a database perspective as well. Teradata support personnel are only able to view state and event data, not the customer or network data. This level of database access is controlled at each customer site. Teradata ServiceLink protects your data from being accessed or modified as it crosses the network through industry-standard security transport protocols:
  • Data is protected by Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-128 / AES-256) or Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) during transport
  • Support traffic is encrypted using the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol internally at Teradata
  • Secure Socket Shell (SSH) protocol may be used at the customer site, based on requirements
  • Data authentication is provided by either the SHA-1(Secure Hashing Algorithm) or MD5 (Message Digest algorithm 5) methods
